What does green and brown make? Newtown Creek!

The first thing we learned was that Newtown Creek is in between Brooklyn and Queens. When we first got on the boat we went out to the East River and saw tall buildings and we were told that it was Manhattan. When we turned around and went the opposite direction from Manhattan we saw that the water was brown, but then as we kept going it turned green As we were moving. We smelled this horrible odor and it was the sweage polluting the water, the smell stunk like tar. I saw cars being smashed with huge bulldozers and next to it I saw plastic cups and other pastic garbage waste getting dumped right beside the smashed cars. After that I saw the polluted water on the side of the creek. As we kept going down the creek we noticed that there were CSO's (combined sewage outfalls) posted on a far distance and by one of the CSO's was a sewage pipe with toxic waist being dumped into the creek.

Newtown Creek pH levels

The Newtown Creek is a very vital piece of history. The Newtown creek is a small but very polluted river. Although polluted the life on near the Newtown Creek is moving on. A diver is being brought in to see if the wall along the Newtown Creek is strong enough to with stand the building of a building. As in any lake or pond the water's ph levels are affected by its age and the chemicals discharged by the surrounding companies or factories. Although the life in the Newtown Creek is not very populis but there are still some animals trying to survive in its waters. Many of the Newtown Creek estuary has become nonexsistent because of the very large oil spillage in the water. On the creek there are also sewage plants that sometimes spill into the waters of the Newtown Creek. The oil spill into the Newtown creek has killed its many critters. The ph levels in the Newtown Creek are a 7.0 its a nuetral level. What you learn in science is that hydrogen molecules have to have an equal amount of each. There is no such thing as a normal ph because the range of normal differs for each pond, lake, river, or any body of water. The reason for most of the pollution in the creek has to do with the c.s.o.'s(combined sewage outfall). They continually dump gallons of human sewage into the Creek a day.

Newtown Creek

Newtown Creek . . . it's a polluted place that all the filth and stuff end up . . . it's the border to Queens and Brooklyn . . . like the Gowanus Canal it's polluted enough that you cannot drink it or use it for anything . . . you can only help clean it and check the water quality. You can test the salinity (the amount of salt in the water), the dissolved oxygen (the amount of oxygen in the water), and other variables that can affect the life forms living in the body of water. Newtown Creek has alot of oil spills, which can greatly affect the water's condition. The health of the water can also be checked by the different animals that live in the surrounding area. If birds, like commorants, are sighted that eat fish, then there must be fish living in the water for the birds to eat. newtown creek is ot really a creek though...even if alot of people claim it is...its more an estuary. an estuary is a water body that connects two other bodies of water. and like many water bodies it is used as a dump and contains many cso's (combined sewage oufall)

Newtown Creek pH Levels

Newtown Creek, though polluted, is a very vital part of New York history. The pollution in Newtown Creek is a big problem. I'm going to be talking to you about the pH levels in Newtown Creek. pH is the amount of acid or base in a body of water. pH is rated on a scale of 0-14 where 0-7 is acidic and 7-14 is basic. Newtown Creek is rated as a 7.0. This means it's a nuetral level. It is not too acidic like orange juice and not too basic like a bleach.
